Paradise City

This photo shows the stark divide between the poverty of the Paraisópolis favela, and the wealth of the adjacent gated communities in the Morumbi district of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Paraisópolis roughly translates as Paradise City, and is the largest favela in Sao Paulo, with over 70,000 inhabitants. There is no proper street lighting or sewerage system and high levels of crime. The police rarely enter, or do only when heavily armed.
